Years ago, I purchased a pair of GI Joe Adventure Team figures for 8 dollars. A Land Adventurer and a (formerly) Talking Commander.
In effort to figure out the issue, I opened his chest up, and looked over the mechanism. The only thing that I could tell to be wrong with it was that the pull cord was been broken off or cut. As far as I know, the mechanism works just fine.
I purchased a replacement pull cord from Cotswold, and wanted to know if anyone has any "inside tips" on how to replace it so GI Joe can Talk again. I have nothing to reference, the only other talking Joe I have is a Club Reproduction, which does not use the same system.
Or if anyone can provide pictures of their talking units for my reference, that alone would be a big help.
Thank you in advance!

While helpful in most other aspects of repairing a unit, it does skim over the one thing I need: replacing the pull cord.

I'm thinking when I did this before I had to manually unwind it with my thumbs and hold it like that while I inserted the string to the brass stopper. I do know it was a task because I was doing it in hand and not with the help of a clamp or tape so I did loss hold of it a few times and had to start over. It's kind of a three hand thing, but once you start to understand how it all works you can hold the spring ribbon with the thumb side of your palm and still have your fingers free to work with the free hand. when it's tied off you can let it go and it'll wind up. Just make sure the needle spring is there and in place.
If you have ever replaced lawnmower pull cord and spring housing- it works like that. From what I remember I had to over extend it a little so the string was tight enough to catch all phrases on the recording vinyl tape.
I know it may sound like gibberish and maybe someone else can explain it better with all the correct terms for the parts.
My buddy says I have eyes on my fingers because I could always install hard to see and reach parts with my fingers mapping out a picture in my mind.

Yea, it seems like that was what I needed to do when I was fiddling around with it some time ago. Although, the Cotswold pull cord comes with something called a "Crimp Tube" or something, so that got me curious as to what the full setup is supposed to look like.
That's why I said, if someone could provide a full picture of the setup, I'd appreciate it. I'll look around on Google.
