Hi, im in the process of putting together my own setup, i have watched youtube clips and looked on the forum of the DIY hand held jobs with everything in the hand held unit, i have a box/unit from electrostatic powder coating setup that basically looks a similar set up as below (box/unit, earth and pedal) my main question is, is there anything in the applicator part (pictured below) or is it simply the wire/s from the box/unit ? does anyone have a picture of one apart or self made one ? iv almost done an applicator its now just double checking on the wiring side thank you

You can set the wire inside the cup/hopper, but I tend to prefer some type of electrode. Some units have the wire connect to a metal band around the inside of the cup and others have an electrode pin, ball, or some other type of peg that is rounded off. Sharp edges give off ions or ozone. Since it's the Static that you want for flocking rounded edges work best. Good detailed pictures are hard to find of commercial models and I think it's due to trade secrets and safety. Most units have warnings not to open them or attempt repairs of any kind. This holds true for anyone not willing to work safely. These are not toys in anyway. Anything I do with any of this type of equipment is done with an overkill of safety in mind and I always assume others will do the same.

I have found it tricky yes, and of course i wasn't expecting to see a full guide/step by step for one of these set ups mainly just the applicator, without seeing one in person i cant be sure whats in there (unlike the powdercoating setup that i know about and can look at)
I do powder coating and i have a modified unit for that i also have one to use/modify if needed to try out flocking, i wasn't 100% sure if there was any electric bits other than a wire/metal in the applicator, i would like to keep it similar to powder coating for example the earth and pedal setup and all the main electrical workings in the unit/box
i am interested in doing a fair bit of flocking for one of my own projects starting from the smaller pieces (not much bigger than your AM heads) increasing in size to a full dash the more practice and confident i get and maybe a little sideline in the future depending on how things go.

Cool. The main issue I always see with larger objects is getting an even adhesive coat that has a long enough open time so you can get the flock on before the glue skins or sets.
