Basic hand held unit using the 120VAC in / 7.5kV out Negative ION Generator. Note: when flocking if you unclip the ground the unit will act like a vacuum and pull the loose flock back to the electrode. Attach the ground again and the flock will be drawn to ground. Attachments:

I didn't know that about the ground clip, I'll have to give that a try.

Is this DIY hand flocking applicator good enough for flocking a car dashboard?

I could as well as many folks here could use it to flock a dashboard, but someone new may have to do a few months of practice.
The biggest task in flocking a dashboard would be the prep. and glue up. Glue up always sounds easy, but know if you have misses or thin spots that you don't find until after you've flocked the dash... you will have to re-do it all. You can't patch work a Dash.

I just received my First Hand Held Flocker today that was made in China that I got from eBaY. It came with a sample of Green Flocking that you use for Grassy Areas of Rail Road dioramas. To test the unit, I took a small piece of cardboard and made a small Glue Patch with some Elmers type school glue and successfully did my First Flocking! After I cleaned up my work area I was wrapping the ground wire around the handle and ZAAP!! It knocked the CRAP Outta' Me!! I actually dropped the flocking unit to the floor. Then I remembered that I read somewhere to wear rubber gloves. Hopefully THAT won't happen again! I know i've still gotta' lot of work ahead of me, but after all of this, I feel like a Full Fledged Flocker!
