Hey everyone, I was looking into flock machines and noticed the high output commercial ones *70KV and even 100kv* are very pricey machines. I want to flock shaved off cowhair for applying it to silicone masks as short fur. The fibers however are pretty big compared to grass and this will surely not work with a low powered flocking machine. I've seen it done with a CP70 flocking gun (this one: www.flockit.com/index.php/products/suede-tex/suede-tex-applicators/cp70-electrostatic-flock-applicator.html) but these things are very pricey. The negative ion generators are effectively flyback converters that convert the voltage into a high voltage at low current right? I've browsed around the forum and noticed the flock man has made a 40~30kv one or so but said it was very lethal because of the spark being able to shoot through rubber, pvc and electrical tape? How come it was hazardous if the current is low? Is the current on the cheap ion generators too high? I was wondering if there is a way to DIY this without spending $600+. Reason being I want it to be flocking is because I want the hairs to stand up straight and punching the hairs is very slow and mostly ment for very long hair fibers.

Actually I'm not sure if it was lethal, but when I looked around at a small lighting storm around me- it didn't make me feel safe. After all I'm not Nicola Tesla. The issue was that I didn't know what the amps were on the output and the idea of 30,000 volts with a possible current made me uneasy. This was all unknown to me. The leaks were due to the use of normal wire and parts found around the shop. I imagine hazards could be avoided by using High Voltage wire and parts.
